Erbe des Ortes takes into account the concept of 'transgenerational trauma' contoured in epigenetics research, which describes the genetic transmission of trauma from one generation to the next and the negative influence of a toxic family environment. 

With the attempt to broaden the scope of this term, I have extended it beyond the family context to other, wider contexts such as those of 'landscape' and 'city'.

My project therefore focuses on places in Berlin that are closely associated with experiences of collective violence, especially in the context of national socialist persecution. 

It circumscribes places that are already explicitly linked to memory practices (such as official memorials) and also look for places and communities that have not yet been sufficiently analysed by and whithin the public consciousness.

The starting point of this research resides in the persecution of Sinti and Roma communities.
